The Cruel Reality of Be A Pro in NHL 19: My Heartbreaking Experience

NHL 20's 'Be a Pro' mode has once again proven itself to be an unpredictable and sometimes cruel experience for many players. As I sit here typing this post, still trying to process the events that unfolded mere hours ago during my online match against some of the best players in EA Sports' latest hockey offering, one thing is clear - NHL 19's Be a Pro mode can indeed dish out its fair share of heartbreak.

For those who may not be familiar with 'Be a Pro' (or simply 'Chel'), it's essentially an offline career mode where you play as your very own created player in the National Hockey League. Your goal? Simple - guide your team to glory and become one half of NHL history alongside some of hockey's greatest legends.

My personal journey began back in August when I first booted up a new copy of NHL 19 with high hopes and expectations running rampant through my veins like an overzealous energizer bunny on Red Bull. After all, who wouldn't want to lace 'em up as their childhood idol and lead their favorite team to Stanley Cup glory?

Fast forward three months later - yes, you read that right; I've spent nearly a quarter of the calendar year perfecting my slap shot technique in front of an empty rink...and what have I got to show for it? A whole lot of nothingness. Literally.

After dominating those initial few games given to prove myself worthy (which let's be honest, isn't exactly rocket science), things took a turn for the worse faster than you can say 'Oh no! Not again!' It started off small at first - an odd penalty here and there; maybe missing one or two crucial breakaway opportunities. No big deal right? We all have bad games.

But then...then it happened.

Overnight, seemingly out of nowhere (pun intended), my once unstoppable goal-scoring machine had transformed into a mere shadow of its former self. I mean we're talking legit NHL-level poor form here - the kind where you'd think EA Sports themselves must've decided to switch controllers with someone who clearly hasn't played hockey since they were five years old.

And don't even get me started on my teammates! It's like they all forgot how basic concepts such as passing and supporting a teammate actually work. I swear sometimes playing alongside these guys would make even the most patient of managers want to pull their hair out in frustration!

But back to business - or rather, lack thereof.

Fast forward another month (yes you guessed it again!) and guess what? Still stuck firmly rooted at rock bottom with no end in sight! At this point, I've tried everything under the sun: adjusting my controls; changing up my playstyle completely; even resorting to using cheat codes just so maybe - JUST MAYBE - things would finally start going right for once again.

But alas...more disappointment. More heartache. More utter despair!

At times like these, it really does make you wonder why on earth anyone still bothers with NHL's Be a Pro mode at all! I mean seriously folks; can't EA Sports just hire some actual developers who actually know how to design a decent hockey game for once?!

Anyway enough venting - onto more important matters...

So there you have it folks. That was my tale of woe in the cruel and unforgiving world that is NHL 19's Be A Pro mode.

Will things ever improve? Only time will tell!
